Sautéed Green Cabbage With Bacon and Apples
When it comes to lunch and dinner I strive to have at least two vegetables sides. With four kids to feed I try to make cooking sides simple and quick, yet at the same time I try to switch things up on occasion. We frequently will just sauté some cabbage in a little ghee with some sea salt, but this recipe is a nice change while still keeping it quick and simple by adding in some onion, apple and bacon! Cabbage is an amazing vegetable to incorporate into your diet on a regular basis. It is part of the cruciferous family along with broccoli and cauliflower. It contains an abundant of vitamins and minerals, and has anti-cancerous properties!! Your kids may even like it with bacon added!
Servings: 4-6 Side Servings
Ingredients:
- 1 Head of Green Cabbage sliced or chopped into small pieces
- 5 Slices of Pastured bacon/humanly raised cut into small pieces
- 1 Granny Smith Apple thinly sliced
- 1 Yellow Onion chopped
- Sea Salt to taste
Directions: In a large skillet or saucepan cook your bacon. When bacon pieces are almost fully cooked add your onion. Continue to sauté the onion until almost translucent and finally add in your cabbage and sliced apple. There should be plenty of bacon grease so no need to add any butter or oil to the pan. Continue to cook on low-medium head stirring occasionally so bacon and cabbage does not burn. When cabbage and apple are both cooked through add some sea salt to taste and your side dish is ready to serve. Happy Eating!!
